Wild Washington lesson plans
As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues, educators, students, and parents are adapting to the new normal of distance/remote learning. To provide support for learners in Washington, we are offering a new service for the 2020-21 school year: wildlife-themed curriculum for elementary, middle school, and high school students.
Our Wild Washington lessons incorporate disciplines ranging from math and science to art and literature. Lessons align with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s state and national environmental and sustainability learning standards. See the table below for a schedule of when lessons will be available for each age group.
Wild Washington lessons have modifications embedded for distance learning, but are also developed for teachers to use when Washington students return back to their classrooms.

Wild Washington Lessons
3rd – 5th grade lessons
Lessons will introduce learners to relevant ecological and wildlife-based issues throughout the state. The interactive activities and lesson plans aim to increase problem-solving and critical thinking skills in a variety of disciplines.
6th – 8th grade lessons
Lessons build on 3-5th grade concepts and introduce students to careers involving natural sciences. Decision making and collaboration are key social themes as students prepare themselves for high school.
9th – 12th grade lessons
Lessons focus on teaching students knowledge and skills that can be applied to careers in the natural sciences. Students will focus on sustainability in fish and wildlife. They will apply skills in civics to solve problems facing the natural resource industry and balance community interests.
