Position: 2021 Summer Work Position

Location: Chehalis, WA

American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) is one of the largest forestry consulting firms in the United States. AFM currently manages over 800,000 acres of forestland in the western US and 6 million acres of privately-owned timberland throughout the US. AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling. Our small regionally dispersed offices allow us to provide individualized services, and our large overall size allows us to coordinate teams of foresters and technical specialists for large, complex jobs.

2021 Summer Work Position

AFM’s Pacific Northwest Region has an opening for a summer work position reporting to the Area Manager. The position will get a wide range of forestry experience working with AFM foresters. Activities will mostly include inventory work using a variety of cruising techniques, reforestation surveys, PCT layout and compliance, marking timber sale stream buffers and unit boundaries, road inspection & road inventory, and other duties assigned by AFM foresters. The position is flexible with starting and end dates to accommodate class schedules. The duration of the summer work schedule would be approximately three months. Work will occur on properties ranging from the Washington coast to the Cascades and will at times require overnight stay.

Minimum Qualifications

∗ At least one year of education in a natural resources related field – forestry preferred.

∗ Previous coursework and knowledge of forest measurements.

∗ Experience in forest inventory is a plus.

∗ Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; working knowledge of GIS & GPS applications is a plus.

∗ Analytical and writing skills.

∗ Must have personal skills necessary to communicate with AFM team members, managers, and contractors.

∗ Must have valid driver’s license

Work Environment

Office and remote field environment. At times works alone in remote forest lands accessed by private unimproved roads where off-road driving skills are required. Involves working long periods of time outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions including summer heat and extreme cold.

Salary and Benefits

∗ Full time hourly pay is to be between $16-$18. Company vehicle provided.
