Come plant live stakes in a wetland! We will be planting willow and cottonwood live stakes on our Railway wetland property!

Wed, December 9, 2020 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM PST

Dear Land Trust Friends,

On  Wednesday, December 9th, we will be planting willow and cottonwood live stakes at one of our Yelm Shoreline properties (we call it Railway).  It’s a wetland area, where we have planted previously. The purpose of planting here is to supplement the previous planting as well as shade out the invasive reed canary grass.

Reed canary grass is an aggressive weed that is a big threat to natural wetlands like our wetland at the Railway site.  It bullies out the native species and provides little to no wildlife habitat value, so the more we can add native species back into the environment, the healthier the wetland will become for all native wildlife species in the area.

With the recent COVID-19 concerns and restrictions put into place for our state, we are limiting our events to 4 people (plus a staff member) to comply with state guidelines for gathering outdoors.  Please register each individual person for any and all events, and know that if you happen to just show up, you may be asked to leave if we are unable to stay within the current protocols.

Since starting volunteer events back up in July, we adopted COVID-19 safety guidelines as well to keep NLT staff and volunteers safe. If you feel you cannot comply with these guidelines, please do not register to attend this event.

  • If you have experienced COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath, etc.) or have been in contact with something who has within the last two weeks, or are feeling ill in any way, please stay home.
  • Volunteers and staff will maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet at all times.
  • Volunteers and staff will wear a mask whenever we are gathered as a group. Once we are spread out and working you may choose to remove your mask, but you must put it back on any time you are interacting with another volunteer or staff member.
  • Volunteers will supply their own gloves and masks whenever possible.
  • Volunteers must not bring food to share with the group, even if it is an individually-wrapped snack.
  • Tools will be sanitized before each work party; volunteers and staff will continue to use the same tool throughout the work party and will not trade with others to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Do not carpool to this event, except with people from your household.
