This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), West Coast Region (WCR) with one vacancy in Sacramento, CA and one vacancy in Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Ellensburg, WA; Santa Rosa, CA; Roseburg, OR; or Long Beach, CA.
Responsibilities
As an Interdisciplinary Supervisory Fish Biologist or Supervisory Natural Resource Management Specialist (Official Title will be determined based on the qualifications of the selectee), you will perform the following duties:
- Provide oversight and policy guidance for the implementation of the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Magnuson-Stevens Act programs and provide counsel to management and outside entities.
- Investigate and evaluate the environmental impacts of human activities on marine, estuarine, and anadromous fish habitats and conservation of protected species.
- Implement strategic priorities, such as catch limits, to prevent overfishing and rebuild depleted stocks.
- Write concise documents such as briefs, biological opinions, plans and technical correspondence that clearly present scientific and technical information and data to promote understanding and cooperation.
- Exercise full supervisory authority including: evaluating work performance; developing performance standards; advising employees; reviewing and approving disciplinary actions; approving expenses, overtime, and employee travel.
