Data and records management, including QA/QC of various Chehalis Aquatic Research Projects.

Manage data in both excel and access databases.

Summarize work completed and/or remaining to track progress of QA/QC work.

Provide data quality control of field collected data and find errors.

Ensure complete, consistent and accurate data.

Data summary, analysis and report development for aquatic research in the Chehalis Basin.

Develop data summaries to address research questions.

Write up summaries & draft technical report sections for review by supervisory biologists.

Conduct field data collection

Conduct surveys to determine abundance, distribution and population trends of aquatic wildlife species or their habitats.

Other duties as required.

Other duties may include but are not limited to presentations to technical committees, at scientific venues and/or the public; and progress report development.

Working Conditions

Working sitting, including hazards:

Under Covid teleworking conditions only a small portion of time may be spent in the office and the incumbent must be able to remain focused, courteous and follow Covid protocols in this environment and remain focused while teleworking.

The incumbent will perform surveys in field conditions which at times may include inclement weather, dense understory vegetation, muddy wetlands, slippery river rocks, steep slopes, clear cuts, heat, cold and biting insects.

Fieldwork occurs in a variety of locations within the Chehalis Basin, including managed timberlands, river floodplains with dense understory, agricultural settings, and mainstem river reaches.

While on fish and amphibian surveys, extended time will be spent on hands and knees, bending, walking and crawling through these and other similarly challenging environments carrying and deploying field equipment of up to 40 lbs.

The incumbent must be comfortable navigating and operating safely throughout such landscapes on foot and/or by small boat to reach survey locations. Selected candidates will receive training for safety, agency policies and procedures, survey protocols, and species identification.

Schedule:

Four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday.

Tools and Equipment:

Desktop Computers, GIS, GPS, cameras, inflatable boats, and iPad’s.

Employee must be able and willing to drive vehicles (4WD trucks and SUVs) on logging roads located in Federal, State, and Private forestlands.

Travel Requirements:

When conducting field work, travel will be required to study sites.

 Customer Interactions:

Timber company employees will be present in tree farms; private landowners on private property and Federal entities (NPS, FS) on federal lands.

Tribal employees and members will be collaborators on selected efforts. University, Federal, County, and State employees will occasionally work with team information sharing and project growth

This position is in the bargaining unit represented by the Washington Association of Fish & Wildlife Professionals and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Washington.
