Job Title: Assistant Executive Director

Time Frame: Late October or November 2020

Location: Cle Elum, Ellensburg WA area initially. Washington State, with limited travel, primarily in Washington State

Reporting to: Washington Materials Management and Financing Authority (WMMFA) Executive Director

A unique opportunity to contribute to the continued success of Washington State’s Electronic Products Recycling Program. Work with government agencies, stakeholders, service providers, and covered products manufacturers to manage the State default electronics recycling program. Be in charge of operating and directing one of the most successful electronics recycling programs in the USA. Opportunity for rapid advancement to the Executive Director position. The Executive Director position reports to a board of consumer electronics product manufacturers and the Washington State department of Ecology with input and collaboration from members that pay for the program and stakeholders that are interested in environmentally responsible outcomes.

The WMMFA: The Washington Materials Management and financing Authority (WMMFA) was created by state law in 2006 as the default electronics recycling state program providing free recycling for all residence (households and other designated small entities) for unwanted consumer electronics such as televisions, monitors, and computers. The “Authority” is designated by law as a business management organization on behalf of the citizens. The WMMFA has a very solid and detailed set of internal controls to maintain program integrity. You will be trained on how to prepare required operational and financial reports to the board and the department of Ecology.

The POSITION: This position would report to the Executive Director and learn all aspects of the operations, finances, and compliance requirements. This is a hands-on position requiring direct management of operational decisions and financial transactions as well as nearly constant reporting to members and our oversight agency. Position will provide financial oversight of the authority’s operations. The position will provide leadership in the creation of strategic, tactical, and financial plans and will act as the liaison to the public, government, affiliated organizations, and other stakeholders. Position will be responsible for managing relationships with all service providers, counsel, local governments, and member manufacturers. The position operates with a great deal of independence and manages a very small support staff. Key

• Proven track record in government and public relations

• Experience in dealing with industry groups and/or Boards of Directors • Strong managerial and organizational skills

• Financial background and experience with financial software

• Strategies for modeling and strategic implementation of operating plan

• Create and manage budgets • Issue quarterly member’s invoices based on approved budget

• Manage deliverables and timeframes

• Maintain WMMFA records

• Manage meetings of WMMFA Board of Directors

• Provide monthly financial updates to Finance Committee

• Manage WMMFA operating budget

• Anticipate and prepare for annual accountability and/or financial audits

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and 10 years’ experience or equivalent

• Master’s degree and 8 years’ experience or equivalent Salary Commensurate with experience and education
