POSTION:

Intern position: 10 hours a week (8 if work study @ $15/hr)

Need someone who is self motivated and  works well independently and as part of a team.  Good research skills.

Thurston County Climate Action Team acts as a coordinating body with other organizations in the county working on climate change.  Our mission is to engage the public in taking action to reduce Green House Gases.  Currently we are working hard to influence and keep the pressure up on the Regional Council’s Steering Committee to create a climate mitigation plan for Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and the county which will be voted on in late fall.   We have a number of action groups made up of volunteers based upon the areas identified in the book Drawdown for action on climate.

This internship would be 10 to 15 hours a week (to be predetermined at its start) and would be supervised by the Community Engagement director.   Depending upon your area of interest: Trees, food and Agriculture, green buildings, advocacy, Youth empowerment, transportation or alternative energy you would support or lead one of the action groups.  (This would be determined out of the interview process).  This would include doing some background research, some organizing and some advocacy.   You will also be helping us organize people to keep pressure on the mitigation process for the vote in the late fall.  In the spring we would be watchdogging them for implementation of the plan.

If interested, contact the Director for the Center for Community Based Learning and Action (CCBLA) Ellen Shortt Sanchez at shorttse@evergreen.edu.
