Responsibilities

This position is primarily located in the Longmire (Paradise) area of Mount Rainier National Park. During the winter months, there are approximately 25 medical calls, 5-10 search and rescue missions, one to three multi-casualty or multi-agency operations annually. This is a non-supervisory position, the incumbent will perform a wide range of winter related activities.

Provide medical care at the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a state EMT level or higher.

Perform emergency medical care in response to various accident scenes, rescue environments and other emergencies involving injury and illness.

Conduct snow surveys to training certifications and assess snow pack and avalanche danger.

Provide winter safety information to all users conducting Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR).

Maintain all signs and ropes associated with the winter sledding hill at Paradise.

Issue backcountry permits and register climbers.

Conduct backcountry patrols on snowshoes or skis.

Operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles in a safe and skilled manner.

Maintains EMS and rescue equipment in a response-ready state and regularly performs related work projects as assigned during daily shift.

Performs tasks as assigned under incident command system (ICS) and interacts routinely with outside agency emergency personnel.
