This is a full time, Limited Duration position through June 30, 2021.
• We will also consider a Job Rotation for current, regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in good standing in a permanent or limited duration position (not temporary or seasonal) that is expected to continue through at least June 30, 2021. What you will do:
Lead the comprehensive data and policy assessment of the ocean Dungeness crab fishery and whale entanglement risk reduction mitigation measures, working with senior fishery managers. Identify and conduct appropriate crab fishery analyses, whale entanglement analyses, and entanglement mitigation measures efficacy analyses. Review existing literature describing Oregon’s Dungeness crab fisheries. Use data from fish tickets, logbooks and other sources of crab data.
Finalize drafts of the Oregon Dungeness crab Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and the Habitat Conservation Plan (CP) to mitigate whale entanglement risk in the ocean commercial Dungeness crab fishery. Consult with federal and state agency partners on completion and submission of the CP, as well as the Tri-State approach to CP development. Stay informed on laws, rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines related to Dungeness crab as they develop.
Participate in public meetings with the crab fleet. Assist in preparation of public meeting materials. Assist in preparation of materials for related Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission meetings (including but not limited to adoption of FMP).

Working Conditions
• Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 PM, requiring extensive use of a personal computer.

We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Two years of biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely-related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological/oceanographic coursework; or three additional years of biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program; OR
• One year of biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Master’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely-related Master’s degree in biological/ecological/oceanographic sciences; OR
• A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely-related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.
Applicants who have obtained a Master’s degree or Doctorate that included work experience from an internship, work/study, thesis, or similar program may list this experience in their application to receive credit for the work experience. The Master’s degree/Doctorate and applicable work experience will be considered separately and both the education and applicable experience may count toward minimum qualifications.
Requested Skills:
• Work experience with marine fisheries and policy issues• Experience with marine fishery management plans and management measures
• Experience with the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA)
• Experience with the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act
• Experience developing a Habitat Conservation Plan under Section 10 of the ESA
• Familiarity with state-federal consultation on compliance with federal laws
