Electric vehicle (EV) adoption behavior change study:
WDFW is undergoing a large, multi-year project to transition our fleet of ~1,400 on-road vehicles to electric alternatives to support the agency’s larger effort to reduce GHG emissions. This study will support this work by helping the sustainability team better understand employees’ motivations around EV adoption. Through a mix of qualitative (e.g., employee focus groups and interviews) and quantitative research (e.g., survey analysis), the study will focus on identifying the primary barriers to EV adoption (with a focus on unearthing deeper, less obvious, reasons why employees might resist transitioning to an EV) and what levers are available for the sustainability team to address these barriers through new programs and outreach efforts.

Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Incentive Evaluation:
WDFW offers a commute trip reduction incentive for agency staff to facilitate behavior change, decrease miles traveled in single-occupancy vehicles, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from employee commuting. The impact of the incentive on staff driving rates is currently unknown, and it is unclear how or if the incentive supports or hinders equity. However, WDFW has almost two years of incentive participation data and employee survey responses that could be combined with staff interviews to analyze the program.  This opportunity would involve data analysis, behavior change evaluation, and an equity assessment to better understand the program’s effectiveness and impact on different employee groups. The results from this study could help shape WDFW’s commute trip reduction program and reducing emissions from employee commuting.
