The flora of Kitsap County has been historically understudied and there are significantly fewer herbaria records than in surrounding counties. This is likely due to the historic lack of accessible public land on the peninsula. In recent decades more land has become Park and Conservation areas, but the county remains poorly collected. There are many interesting botanical anomalies in this county (prevalence of white pine, lack of vine maple) that could be explored in addition to a general floristic survey. Kitsap County Parks is interested in being a locus for this type of research as well as help make connections to other landowners in the area to facilitate this research.
