Is it possible to manage knotweed using wire fencing (see photo below)?
I started this project last year before I realized that I did not have the capacity to collect the data I want. But I learned somethings that will help with setting up this project with a student.
For instance, comparing various spacing of the wire squares (to girdle the stems that attempt to grow through – or will knotweed break it like it does weak concrete?), comparing fencing materials (though this one is likely least important, but could still possibly be useful), comparing how far out from the plant the wire needs to be (i.e., an additional 10’ buffer from outer edge of current patch? 20 feet? 50 feet? It seems that the knotweed likes to shoot off to the side when it realized that it is difficult to grow through the wire.
