Galerie Fotoland presents Ashley Miller, an Evergreen alumni, and her series “Sweet Things.”
Ashley Miller is an American artist working primarily in still life photography. Born in Syria and raised on Guam, she currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Miller graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2015 and is completing an MFA from the University of New Mexico. Her work has been shown most recently at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, Oregon and at the Organ Vida International Photography Festival in Croatia.
“Sweet Things” consists of nine images that Ashley has been working on since graduating from Evergreen in 2015. “Modern society is built on overabundance and addiction. This state of anxiety is the starting point for my work, in which I attempt to embrace the tautological regurgitation. After all, I am peddling the fetish.” Miller’s prints were all made in the color darkroom at the Evergreen State College. Her photos are vibrant in color and have a metallic quality to them that really draws the eye in. For three years after graduating Evergreen, Miller continued working on this still life series using Photoland’s color darkroom for as long as it was available.
The exhibit will run until May 31st, 2019.

The gallery is located at The Evergreen State College, 2700 Evergreen Parkway NW Olympia, WA 98505, in the Daniel J. Evans Library Lobby first floor (outside Photoland). It is open during normal school hours most days of the week. Galerie Fotoland is supported by Evergreen’s Photoland.
