This page features recent projects; students and staff have also created proposals for many others – projects focused on agriculture & food systems, energy infrastructure, our natural environment, campus organizations, educational materials, and engagement with the wider community.

More details about all these projects (including the people interested in them) are available on Evergreen’s website if you have an account, or by contacting the Climate Action and Sustainability Center.  The staff at Residential and Dining Services maintain a blog of their own about the sustainability projects around campus housing and dining.

The Bulkhead Removal Project at Bushoowah-Ahlee Point on Evergreen’s beach aims to contribute to salmon habitat restoration by removing shoreline armoring, with collaboration between the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group, Squaxin Island Tribe, and The Evergreen State College. You can read more about it on the CCAS blog, here, and here.

Development of this solar project on the college’s Recreation Pavilion was led by students, implemented with the help of the Climate Center, and funded by a grant from the students’ Clean Energy Committee. It will save the college around $13,000 a year in energy costs, and at least $440,000 over its 25 year lifetime. It’s also expected to reduce our carbon footprint by about 88,000 pounds of CO2 each year. The Center blogged about it here.

The Center and the Bikeshop Co-op (a student organization) are in the process of reviving the Campus Bikeshop. This accessible space will allow Greeners to build, fix, and learn about bikes for free, supporting human-powered alternatives to carbon based transportation.
