The Climate Center and its partnered teams have a few different types of volunteer work at any given time. Below are a few common types. We also try to ensure there are also remote and in-person opportunities to accommodate different needs.

General Volunteer Work

If you are interested in work to help further the Climate Center’s programs and goals we typically can use help with Outreach, Events, and Projects. Emailing to let us know what type of work is of interest is the best way to get started. Some examples under each category are below:

  • Outreach – physically flyering, making announcing out in the community, creating online media content.
  • Events – helping set-up, take-down, greeting guests, or designing workshops and film screenings.
  • Projects – everything from designing/developing, creating art, or writing pieces. Such as artistic renditions of proposed sustainability projects, writing blog submissions about a local speaker/event, or helping collect information for steps and details for solar installation.

The Climate Corps (with the Solarpunk Society)

If you are interested in either designing or participating in active, hands-on community work or events such as; eco-restoration work parties, participating in citizen/community science, environmental monitoring, or various arts and crafts, emailing ClimateAction@evergreen.edu or submitting an Solarpunk Society interest form is the first step.

Event Assistance with Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT)

Our partnered organization, TCAT, often has off-campus events and activities that can use volunteers. From greeting guests at our lecture series, to running table activities with youth and families. Emailing info@thurstonclimateaction.org with what type of work you’re interested in is the best first step to see what’s coming up. 

Educational Volunteering

If you’re an elementary or high school teacher, or work in higher education, and would like to donate your services or time, please let us know. We’re very interested in developing more opportunities to help support or collaborate with educational professionals in our region who are concerned about climate change and sustainability.

Examples of volunteer opportunities:

  • Assist with promoting the Center’s services and programs in your school

  • Attend some of our events on line

  • Write an article about your work teaching about climate or sustainability issues for our monthly newsletter

  • Facilitate a Climate Action Collaborative virtual workshop about integrating climate or sustainability issues into other classes, from art projects to English or psychology

  • Offer consulting hours as a Climate Center Resource Faculty.
