Ways to become more informed, get engaged, and quickly take action.

Understand the “Four Levels of Climate Action”.
This is a good framework for understanding the range and types of climate action. These videos lay it out concisely.

But What Can I Do Right Now?
- Practice Self/Communal Care. Seriously. It’s hard to participate in a movement when you’re burnt out. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a great framework to highlight the need for securing a safe and stable environment.
- Fortunately there are a lot of practices that can benefit the environment or avoid harming it – nature walks, using libraries, talking/listening with friends and community members, crafting/DIY, etc.. (Check back for a fuller future list).
- Download the Climate Action Now App. This is a phone app you can download. After you get an account set up, it’ll prompt you with short political or personal actions you can take.
- Volunteer Locally. This is typically an effective, impactful, and communal tactic. Even if it’s a one-off effort. To find partners in the Thurston ECO Network visit here.
- If you’re not sure where to start, you can use this survey to get paired up with groups that are seeking volunteers.
- Do SHIFT’s Survey. This web survey can feel a bit silly, but helps people dig deep into what overarching strategic actions they can take to support larger scale changes based on their situation.
- Alternatively, you can explore your own ideas by doing Ayana Elizabeth’s exercise based on the Japanese concept of Ikigai.
