The Center for Climate Action and Sustainability (CCAS) empowers individuals and communities to take bold, actionable steps toward a just, sustainable, and climate-resilient future. Practically, this means we host events and workshops that bring together students, faculty, community members, and non-profit organizations to focus on regional climate and sustainability issues. We offer ongoing educational programs such as the Climate Policy and Action program, a new Master of Environmental Studies (MES) elective on energy transitions, and the Climate Lecture series. Staff also work to help support climate and sustainability education in regional elementary and high schools and are exploring ways to collaborate with other college faculty teaching in these areas. The Center works to advance sustainability projects on campus and in the region and provides funding to support MES Sustainability Fellows – current students working on sustainability projects. It develops and supports undergraduates’ projects, individual learning contracts and internships, on campus and in the region. You can learn more about our work by consulting our most recent annual report or by subscribing to our newsletter.
We’d like to do more, but all this takes money; our budget for the coming year is over $300,000. The Center was founded and supported for its first few years by a major gift from alumni, but we’re now an established ongoing organization, and we need ongoing funding to help support and expand our work. Contributions are deeply appreciated, and we do our best to use them wisely and effectively. We’re also supported by volunteers.
How to donate to the Climate Center
The Center operates as a non-profit public service center at the college. You can make a tax-deductible one-time or monthly donation to support our work through the Evergreen Foundation’s website at:
https://www.evergreen.edu/give/give-now
(Under Designation, you select “Other” and then write in the Center.) You can also mail personal checks or qualified charitable distributions from an IRA to the Evergreen State College Foundation at 3900 Evans, 2700 Evergreen Parkway NW, Olympia, WA 98505 with a note saying the donation is for the Center.
