A Celebration of Creativity,
Climate Action, and Community

๐Ÿ“… May 23rd | ๐Ÿ•™ 10:00 AM โ€“ 4:00 PM + Evening Film
๐Ÿ“ The Evergreen State College โ€“
Red Square, Purce Hall, Evans Hall Lobby

Solarpunk is a movement including stories, art, and real-world projects that ask a core question:

What if we actually solved the climate crisis โ€”
and built a more just, caring world while we did it?

Instead of dystopias or an apocalyptic collapse, Solarpunk imagines hopeful futures where communities:

  • Transition away from fossil fuels to renewables,
  • Repair relationships with land, water, and other living things
  • Build systems based on cooperation, mutual aid, and justice, and
  • Blend appropriate technology with local knowledge and culture

Join us for a day of workshops, food, educational displays, and music.
Help imagine a better future – open to all!

Please let us know if you’re planning to come!

๐ŸŒฟ About the Event๐ŸŒฟ

Evergreen’s theme for the past year has been “Public College, Public Good“, inspired by Washington Monthly‘s ranking it as the best of the 600 liberal arts colleges they evaluated in 2022 for their contributions to the public good, “based on what they do for the country”.ย  We believe that learning, creativity, and collaboration can build a more sustainable and fairer world. We want to celebrate and inspire folks with works not just from Evergreen, but Olympia, Thurston County, and the PNW!

In fashion of Evergreen’s historically beloved “Super Saturday” and the Science Carnival event, throughout the day, there will be:

  • ๐ŸŽค Interactive workshops & presentations
  • Solarpunk displays illustrating William Gibson’s maxim, “The future is already here; it just isn’t evenly distributed.”
  • ๐ŸŽถ Music and performances
  • ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Displays of student research & projects
  • ๐ŸŒฎ Food, community spaces, and tabling

๐ŸŽฌ As well as a potential the evening film screening inspired by solarpunk themes.

Whether you’re part of Evergreen or the broader community, this is a space to connect, learn, and imagine better futures together!
