Over the span of three quarters, my project, “Learning to Start a Farm,” embarked on a comprehensive journey commencing in the spring and concluding in the fall. The initial phase involved laying the groundwork for a fledgling farm, focusing on the formulation of a business plan. With an aspiration to cultivate a thriving Community Sustained Agriculture (CSA) farm share, I dedicated the summer quarter to practical pursuits—raising meat chickens, crafting a compost heater system for the greenhouse, and overseeing the cultivation, sale, and preservation of farm-grown vegetables. Throughout all phases, my endeavors were meticulously chronicled in a detailed wordpress ePortfolio, capturing weekly progress, harvest and sales records, food processing milestones, and the evolution of the meat chicken project.

As the project reached its crescendo in the fall quarter, the focus shifted towards the culmination of efforts. This final phase involved the processing of meat chickens, strategic planning for the 2024 garden and CSA, and the continued responsibilities of tending to the growth, care, sale, and preservation of vegetables harvested from the farm. The three-quarter project encapsulates the evolution of a dream into a tangible agricultural endeavor, marked by the iterative process of planning, execution, and the nurturing of a sustainable and community-supported farming initiative.
