An Experiment and a Work in Progress:

This website contains examples of student capstone projects within Food and Ag Studies at The Evergreen State College. Most students’ posts include:

  • Abstract of a capstone or advanced learning project
  • Link to a student WordPress ePortfolio or project website

All images and text on this academic curricular website are being used for educational purposes only. It is a prototype, it’s partial, and it’s a work in progress. Every effort has been made to secure student permissions and to support acknowledgements for the creators of all images and text. Thanks to Ryan Richardson, Evergreen info tech specialist, for drone photography images, including the website header featuring Caleb Poppe engaged in Evergreen’s 2019 NOVIC SURF tomato field trial. Given the one constant of change, please contact us with errors and updates.

Website Structure:

Under “PROJECTS” there are the following subheadings:

Greener Post-Capstone Projects
Greener Post-Capstone Projects and Study Abroad: Global Food and Ag Studies

In addition to the capstone projects listed by student graduation year, the last category links to examples of Evergreen post-graduate projects–“Greener Post-Capstone Projects.”  From a program field trip to the Northwest Chocolate Festival to an internship with cacao farmers in Hawaii, from grape harvest in the Willamette Valley to hop harvest in Yakima, and from agroforestry in Peru to Bamboo U in Bali, Evergreen students before and after graduation have engaged in food and ag projects both near and far.  Check out the “Opportunities” link in the menu for community partners with whom Evergreen students regularly do internships and special events in collaboration with Evergreen’s Center for Community-Based Learning and Action (e.g., Thurston County Food Bank, Farmworker Justice Day).
