This has meant that many people are unable to efficiently communicate. The primary means of communication has had to turn back into word of mouth, and through meeting up regularly, the students of Evergreen have managed to make an efficient enough communication network.

This has been until the students befriended the bears that have wandered onto campus, this had opened many students to the idea that some of the wildlife was not a threat but instead could be befriended. The students did just that and it was when pigeons began to show up around campus more that some began to try and befriend them too. That was when they realized the pigeons are even more friendly than they had been, coming right up to people and seeming to have lost some fear they had.

Some of the students realized they were able to train these pigeons super easily, some even tested out if they could navigate the campus efficiently and potentially be used like they once had bad in the day– as couriers.

These tests were resoundingly successful, it was almost as if the pigeons had re-domesticated themselves. They took immediately to traveling amongst the buildings and many groups on campus, allowing even more efficiency in passing along information. Students began to set up certain locations for the pigeons where letters could be received and sent off and many students have taken to borrowing one of these or having adopted their own pigeon. Even with the ability to traverse a majority of the campus, this has opened up more efficient methods of communication between further off locations such as the farm and it would even seem the pigeons aren’t affected when the fog rolls in.

This has given the students the idea that maybe the pigeons could be sent to Olympia, if they were unaffected then they could become another means of communication between Evergreen and Olympia when radio transmissions aren’t being received. There are efforts being made to communicate this with the Fire Station so that they can set up areas for the pigeons and communicate with their own community the way they’re being used.

Electricity is an invaluable resource– since being cut off after the incident, there has been no cellular data or internet, every electronic still functions but only in “offline” forms.
