I’ve been spending more time around there, even going on patrols. Just something to do, you know? The encounters have been growing…stranger. Not sure how else to describe it. More people have been going into the fog. More people have been coming out of it. But they never come back quite the same. Though I think the results greatly depend on just how long the person has been in there. Earlier today I encountered someone that was only just barely in the fog. Not even a day they were gone. But the moment we found them, I knew they were strange. Their eyes darted about like something wicked lay around every corner and it would creep up on them if they didn’t keep watch. Though after a while, they began to settle, coming back to themselves slowly as if piece by piece. They might even start talking after a few hours.

This was not the case for everyone else. The other day we encountered someone that must have been in the fog for a long time. Perhaps since the beginning. They babbled a bit, words we couldn’t quite make out. It was something akin to a baby who couldn’t quite make out that they had a mouth and could form words with it. But slowly, like the others before them, they began to speak. Incoherent speech, yes, but there was something there. They would only talk about the fog. Try to stir them to something else, the fog would be brought into conversation. Try to bring them food, they would stare at it. Like they didn’t know what to do with it. I literally had to mimic eating a cup of pudding just to get them to follow the same motions. To eat something, because that person looked like skin and bones I’ll tell you. I wondered how long it had been since they last had a meal. But, food is growing scarce these days. I reckon it’s been a while since anyone here has had a proper meal. It might be longer still until we can muster up enough food to reliably feed this campus.

I don’t know what I’m doing here. I try to help where I can. Can’t do anything else, really. Don’t wanna just sit around doing nothing, I’ll lose my mind just as easily as those people lost theirs to the fog. Would that even be accurate to say? They lost their minds to the fog? Could something like that be regained? I would like to think more on this. It’s important, for sure. But no one really has the time for such worries. I’ll have to bring it up at the next meeting. Some have brought it up before, but it’s too early to have had many people really focusing on this issue. But if the fog gets any closer, we might not have another choice but to turn our heads to it. A grave fear of mine might soon be realized if we do not. We could all lose our minds to the fog.

And just think— [TRANSCRIPT ENDED]

Found 5/2, subject unknown, recording date unknown I’ve seen more of the fog people as of late.
