General Information<\/h3>\n

Chaetoceros<\/span> <\/span>debilis<\/span><\/em> is<\/span> a <\/span>widely distributed yellow-brown diatom that occur<\/span>s<\/span> <\/span>in cooler<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>shallow, near-shore <\/span>waters<\/span> during late winter and into the spring<\/span>. The cells are rectangular and connected in spiraling chains. They are photosynthetic and reproduce sexually and asexually. It is thought that they may cause physical damage to fish gills <\/span>(“<\/span>Chaetoceros<\/span> <\/span>d<\/span>ebilis<\/span>“<\/span>,<\/span> 2012).<\/span> Some <\/span>tintinnids<\/span> graze on algal blooms and help prevent further growth of the bloom (<\/span>Admiraal<\/span> & Venekamp, 1986).<\/span><\/p>\n
