General Information<\/span><\/h3>\n

Ti<\/span>ntinnids<\/span> <\/span>are protozoans <\/span>that are con<\/span>ical or trumpet-<\/span>shaped with <\/span>well developed<\/span> <\/span>ciliation\u00a0<\/span>around the mouth opening. The rest of the cell lacks cilia. M<\/span>ost <\/span>tintinnids<\/span> <\/span>are marine, <\/span>but <\/span>some <\/span>can also be <\/span>found in fresh and brackish water <\/span>(“<\/span>Tintinnid<\/span>“, 2016)<\/span>. <\/span>Delimitation of different species based on morphological criteria alone is very difficult. <\/span>This is due to the<\/span> range of variability in shapes and sizes<\/span>. The variability<\/span> can be very high even within a single species depending on life stag<\/span>es and environmental conditions<\/span> <\/span>(Xu, Sun, Shin, & Kim, 2012)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
