While dark matter and energy are said to make up 95% of the mass of the universe, they have only been proven to exist based on the way they affect the other 5% of mass in the universe. My art this week is a watercolor painting of an iceberg-like figure floating in water, with the significant portion of mass of the iceberg figure below the water level. Much like the triple burner, you might not see the greater mass of an iceberg with your eyes, but just like dark matter, it’s existence can be tangentially proven when matter above water is affected by the mass of the iceberg below water (i.e., a boat crash).”

“This week’s studies made me think a lot about the question of how to verify the existence of something without physical confirmation, which made me think about dark matter/energy.
