My choice of work to share with the international student symposium is a painting I made. In this painting I depict a transition from top to bottom of the Monterey Bay, California beach landscape where I grew up, into the forests and rainy skies of Washington where I am now. I wanted to show something that’s both personal to me and my experience living in the United States but also to appreciate the natural beauty that lies within it. Despite being something that’s all around us, nature can be deeply personal, as painting these landscapes was for me, connecting my past and present experiences together on one canvas.
