One of my go to sources for alternative explanations are the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feynmanlectures.info\/\">Feynman Lectures on Physics<\/a><\/strong>, which can be read freely online. There is a discussion of the least action principle: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu\/II_19.html\">Lecture 19 The Principle of Least Action<\/a><\/strong>. Given what you are likely to have studied, I recommend stopping when the discussion turns to least action for the relativistic case.
