Group Project Proposals due Mon. April 18 by 5pm

As noted in the Project Timeline: “Due Week 4 Monday April 18 by 5pm: Group Project Proposal posted to program website. Follows Guidelines for your group research project blog post as much as possible given early stage of project.”

Fill in the following sections as best you can. For sections that you can’t complete, anticipate as best you can what you will include (e.g. in the Results section, include what you might plan to video, what kinds of graphs you might produce, etc.). Review the Project Guidelines for details.

  1. The names of all group members
  2. A project title
  3. A short summary of your project
  4. Introduction/Project Background
  5. Methods
  6. Results
  7. References

Life of a Leaf reading assignments

Please update your syllabus to include the following readings from Life of a Leaf (LoaL). These readings should be considered as part of the physics reading for the week, and should be completed by that week’s physics lecture.

  • Week 3: Chapter 1 (for Friday Wrap)
  • Week 4: Chapter 2
  • Week 5: Chapters 3 – 6
  • Week 6: Chapters 11-12
  • Week 7: —
  • Week 8: TBD
  • Week 9: TBD

Physics Problem Set 3 available

  • You can download a printable version of Physics Problem Set 3 (due Mon. April 18 at 6 pm via WebAssign) here. You can also see the Problem Set on WebAssign directly.
  • Prepare for Physics Workshop on Fri. Apr. 15 by attempting as many of the problems as you can before workshop time.
  • This material should be familiar to most physics tutors. There are experienced tutors available on Wednesday afternoon from 1 – 6, and many of the physics students in the QuaSR on Wednesday afternoon should also be familiar (though perhaps rusty) with this material. Most people are likely to use algebraic methods to solve the problems – please remember that graphical methods are just as useful.

Physics Problem Set 2 solutions

  • You can find solutions to Physics Problem Set 2 here.
  • A number of students contacted me because they struggled with the assignment. There were several challenging problems on this problem set, so it’s ok that there were difficulties. I will be available over the lunch break on Tue. April 12 to go over questions with students who are interested.

  • Please continue to read all of Life of a Leaf.
