I am currently a senior Professor in the Mathematics Department at Prairie View A&M University. I have been a leader and mentor in curriculum design for College Algebra and the gateway mathematics courses as part of a program initiated by faculty members in the mathematics department at the United States Military Academy at West Point and supported by NSF and ARO. I have served as part of the leadership team to train faculty across the US on alternate delivery styles to assist in increasing the success of the students in these courses. In addition, I have served as a member of the Mathematics Association of America subcommittee on Curriculum Redesign of the First Two Years (CRAFTY).<\/p>\n
As a service to my discipline I had the pleasure of serving a five-year appointment with the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ developing questions for the SAT Mathematics Subject Test.<\/p>\n
I also serve as Director of the PVAMU Center for Teaching Excellence which provides leadership for multiple activities for faculty and professional staff. \u00a0Among those activities are New Faculty Orientation, Deans and Department Heads leadership training, \u201cFaculty Friday\u201d which is a day of concurrent best practices sessions and \u201cRAM\u201d, Reach and Achieve with a Mentor. Additionally Title III provides support to an activity in the Center known as the \u2013\u201cPVAMU Academic and Leadership Training Laboratory <\/em>which provides multiple options of training for faculty and administrators to initiate or improve their leadership skills.<\/p>\n Additionally I served on the PVAMU CORE team for the reaffirmation process required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. I also served as the director of the Prairie View A&M five-year Quality Enhancement Plan, Increasing Reading and Engagement for Academic Development (IREAD) which is a requirement of the reaffirmation process by SACSCOC.<\/p>\n I have served as a reviewer and chair for project submitted to the National Science Foundation. I have served as an external evaluator for departments of mathematics, Quality Enhancement Plans and other grants. In 2010 and 2011, I earned the Texas A&M Chancellors Faculty Award.<\/p>\n I currently serves as Executive Director of the National HBCU Faculty Development Network.<\/p>\n I am active in the community serving as a member of the Houston Ensemble Theater Guild, Board member of the Pink Ribbons Project \u2013 In Motion against Breast Cancer<\/em> and the Enrichment and Brotherhood of Northwest Youth (EBONY) organization.<\/p>\n I have served as a Resource Faculty for the National Summer Institute on Learning Communities for several years and hope that my continued growth in my discipline and with faculty development will allow me to share my learning experiences with the 2019 participants.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Professor\/Director Department of Mathematics Center for Teaching Excellence Prairie View A&M University I am currently a senior Professor in the Mathematics Department at Prairie View A&M University.
