Wednesday, April 30th @ 11:59 pm ET.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fe-block fe-block-089c5295a71c1c4dffe0\">\n<div id=\"block-089c5295a71c1c4dffe0\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-blend-mode=\"NORMAL\" data-block-type=\"2\" data-border-radii=\"{&quot;topLeft&quot;:{&quot;unit&quot;:&quot;px&quot;,&quot;value&quot;:0.0},&quot;topRight&quot;:{&quot;unit&quot;:&quot;px&quot;,&quot;value&quot;:0.0},&quot;bottomLeft&quot;:{&quot;unit&quot;:&quot;px&quot;,&quot;value&quot;:0.0},&quot;bottomRight&quot;:{&quot;unit&quot;:&quot;px&quot;,&quot;value&quot;:0.0}}\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<div class=\"sqs-html-content\">\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>ABOUT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The Waub Ajijaak Leadership Scholarship supports students of Native American, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian descent as they pursue undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional degrees at accredited institutions in the beautiful state of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>HONORING AND UPLIFTING LEADERSHIP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The Waub Ajijaak Leadership Scholarship is for those who have been dedicated to leadership, volunteerism, and community service.\u00a0 Culturally, leadership means different things based on your nation, traditional name, and clan or clans.\u00a0 We want to honor this as well as understand it is an ongoing process for many to reclaim their culture, knowledge of traditional lifeways, family stories, and community connections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The Waub Ajijaak Press Leadership Scholarship is for Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students who are enrolled at tribal colleges, universities, or other accredited schools.\u00a0 You have to be attending or plan to attend a college in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>AWARD AMOUNT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Each student will be awarded $2,000 per academic school year ($1,000 per fall and spring semesters only).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>APPLICATION CRITERIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Must be of Native American, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian descent.\u00a0 You have to show proof of enrollment or descendant status when you submit your application.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Must reside in Michigan as well as attend college\/university in Michigan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Must be a high school senior or a student accepted into an accredited higher education institution at the time of application.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Be enrolled or intend to enroll in one of the following types of programs: an associate\u2019s, bachelor&#8217;s, master&#8217;s, doctoral, medical, law, or other professional degree.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">A minimum GPA of 2.5 is recommended.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Use scholarship funds during the academic school year (fall and spring semesters only).\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The award can be applied to tuition, fees, books, and\/or supplies.\u00a0 The award can\u2019t be applied to room and board.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Applicants must fill out the scholarship application completely to be considered.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">This is a one-time award not renewable to past recipients.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Financial needs will be considered.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Essay &#8211; See essay guidelines below.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Confirmation of Native Identity &#8211; Please attach your Tribal ID or a letter from the enrollment department.\u00a0 Please note that there is no minimum blood quantum requirement for eligibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Letter of Acceptance &#8211; Submit this from your college\/university.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">Transcript &#8211; Recent official and unofficial academic transcripts are both acceptable.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">High School Diploma or GED &#8211; Attach your high school diploma or GED documentation if applicable.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>ESSAY GUIDELINES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The essay is a primary component of the application process that will help to determine the award.\u00a0 We want you to tell your story, demonstrate your writing skills, and how this scholarship opportunity will support your leadership development.\u00a0 Please make sure to include the following information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">The essay must be 500 words maximum, double-spaced with 1\u201d margins, and in 12 pt. Times New Roman font only.\u00a0 Please save the file as a PDF.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\">It should include the following key components:<\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Introduction<\/strong> \u2013 Share information regarding your tribal affiliation, home, family, community, and where you are from.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Educational Goals &amp; Academics<\/strong> \u2013 How have you achieved academic success?\u00a0 What are your current educational goals? Why did you choose your field of study?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Career Goals &amp; Plans<\/strong> \u2013 What are your career goals? How will the Waub Ajijaak Leadership Scholarship help you achieve your career goals?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Cultural Connection <\/strong>\u2013 What does your heritage mean to you?\u00a0 What is your cultural connection like?\u00a0 What skills and knowledge will you gain from your education that you can use to support and uplift your community?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Leadership &amp; Community Service<\/strong> \u2013 What is your community involvement like? What does leadership mean to you based on your nation, community, name, and clan or clans?\u00a0 Also, if applicable please write about all the facets of leadership from traditional, hereditary, and decolonization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Additional Involvement &#8211; <\/strong>Please share if you are involved in any student groups or clubs such as a Native American student organization.\u00a0 Additionally, if applicable please share if you are a student-athlete by describing your sport, goals, successes, lessons, etc.\u00a0 You are welcome to share if you have a full or part-time job, internship, or fellowship.\u00a0 How do you seek balance in everything that you are involved in?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"preFade fadeIn\"><strong>Unique Circumstances \u2013 <\/strong>Please share what you are comfortable writing in your application about adversity or obstacles you had to overcome to pursue an education.
