Commutes are often trickier, nights are longer, and we wish for the warm glow of the sun. As we observe the falling of leaves, the world begins to look bare.<\/p>\n<p>Aspiring naturalists, remember that this yearly cycle is one of waxing and waning. Out of the death of many annuals, the decomposition of organic materials that shelter the forest floor yield a blessed gift&#8230;. FUNGI!<\/p>\n<p>Our collection of fungi has exponentially increased in the past few years due to the work of students from past Fungal Kingdom programs and present fellows. If you are curious about an unusual fruiting body you have spotted or would like some experience identifying what types of fungi are edible, we are open on Wednesdays from 1-5 and Fridays by appointment only.<\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite specimens housed in our collection is this incredible Ophiocordiceps sp. emerging from an adult moth. This genus of fungi has 140 species and is known to grow on insects.
