We hope your summer gave you the opportunity to charge up for the upcoming year, and we are excited to start a new academic year with you. Remember that you are not alone as we begin a new school year together. In our program, you can ask questions, take risks, and grow academically and personally.\u00a0The MPA team will be there for you every step of the way.<\/p>\n<p>As we begin this year, we want to provide you with some information on ways the MPA program is updating this year:<\/p>\n<p>We are happy to welcome Dr. DeAnn Dillon, a citizen of the White Earth Nation, as a faculty member teaching with Jeffrey Callen in the Tribal Governance cohort this year! DeAnn earned her EdD in Education Leadership from the University of Washington Tacoma. She is also a graduate of the Evergreen MPA Tribal Governance cohort of 2020. DeAnn is currently a professor of history at South Seattle College. DeAnn brings professional expertise in the Washington legislature, ethnic, gender and labor studies, leadership and tribal relations, among many areas of experience.<\/p>\n<p>We are also happy to welcome back Dr. Kandi Bauman as a faculty member teaching with Larry Geri and Amy Gould in Olympia this year! Kandi earned her PhD in Higher Education\/Higher Education Administration from the University of Washington and is an Evergreen MPA grad. Kandi graduated with the 2016 cohort. Kandi is currently Assistant Director of Research and Curriculum at the University of Washington. Among Kandi\u2019s areas of professional expertise are program development, community outreach, leadership development and nonprofit.<\/p>\n<p>Joining us later in the year to teach in the Tribal Governance cohort are Dr. John Hopkins and Daniel Stone. Dr. John Hopkins, a citizen of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, earned his PhD from the University of Washington in the social and cultural foundations of education. John also received his Master\u2019s in Philosophy from Marquette University. He is currently the Chief Diversity Officer at Saint Martin\u2019s University. John brings professional experience in indigenous studies, ethics, critical multicultural education and race and ethnic studies.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Stone, a citizen of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho specializing in Natural Resource Law. Daniel is currently the Environmental Program Director for the UPPER SNAKE RIVER TRIBES FOUNDATION INC. Previously he served as a policy analyst for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Fish and Wildlife Department. Daniel\u2019s areas of expertise are varied and include grant writing, negotiation, strategic planning and community outreach.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Former MPA Director Mike Craw has agreed to stay on and serve this year as the MPA program\u2019s Associate Director. In this role, Mike will share MPA Director duties with Director Meghan Doughty. This will enable both Meghan and Mike to take active roles in teaching MPA core courses while also assuring student needs from the program are met.
