{"id":1364,"date":"2022-02-07T11:27:22","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T19:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mpanews\/?p=1364"},"modified":"2022-04-20T08:58:16","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T15:58:16","slug":"mpa-students-and-faculty-collaborate-with-housing-justice-coalition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mpanews\/mpa-students-and-faculty-collaborate-with-housing-justice-coalition\/","title":{"rendered":"MPA Students and Faculty collaborate with Housing Justice Coalition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Evergreen MPA students <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Leanne Rolling and Zach Lynch recently completed a study for the Washington State Housing Justice Coalition that is now the basis for a bill in the Washington state legislature.\u00a0 Working with faculty member Amy Gould, Leanne and Zach developed and analyzed a survey of Washington state residents impacted by the criminal justice system about their experiences with housing discrimination. This multi-phased research project started with a short initial survey via social media, e-mail, and website links hosted on HJC member organization sites. The second phase built relationships by following up with survey participants to see if the survey analysis accurately represented their perspective. The third phase gathered lived experience testimonies from participants via e-mail, phone, and listening circle sessions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Drawing on this study, the Housing Justice Coalition supported legislation to reform housing background checks. Currently HB 2017 \u201cAddressing housing concerns for individuals impacted by the criminal legal system\u201d is moving through the legislature.
