Podcasts are ubiquitous these days, even thinktanks and government agencies are getting in on the action. Last quarter students in the Gender Based Crime and Justice elective created their own podcasts related to class themes. Students learned how to: write out a podcast outline and script; include royalty free music and sounds; and record and edit using Audacity, a podcast software. Some podcasts featured interviews, including one from Evergreen’s Title IX coordinator Connie Gardner. Other podcasts used different narrative techniques. Topics ranged from critiques of Title IX policy to a holistic explanation and critique of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIW) policy. Podcasts are an opportunity for nonprofits and government agencies to translate complex information for public consumption. Great podcasts can move public sentiment on an issue.
