Evergreen MPA faculty are grateful for ongoing collaborations with the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD), Department of American Indian Studies with their programs in Tribal Administration and Governance. With efforts to share our knowledge and grow the field of Tribal Administration, faculty members Amy Gould and Eric Trevan met with colleagues from various universities along with students from UMD and leaders from great organizations such as Northwest Indian College, the Native Nations Institute, Native Governance Center, NCAI’s Partnership for Tribal Governance, and Minnesota’s Bush Foundation. The first day was dedicated to an applied governance planning meeting where we reviewed input received from consultations with tribal leaders. Based on this data, we formed work groups with action items to move the field of Tribal Administration forward: a journal for peer reviewed publications, a leadership board, and a desk reference handbook for tribal administrators. The second day was an applied governance symposium involving presentations from faculty member Eric Trevan and thought leaders such as Miriam Jorgensen, Ian Record, and Wayne Ducheneaux around the topics of “Nation Building and Applied Research” along with “Cultivating Governance Capacity”. We celebrated the field of Tribal Administration and are looking forward to being part of a bright future.
