What to Expect-<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the\u00a0Natural Resource Worker\u2019s duties will include,<\/p>\n
Noxious Weed Control:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Use a truck, ATV, and backpack sprayers to assist in herbicide application.<\/li>\n
- Remove weeds by hand or using hand tools as needed.<\/li>\n
- Mix and apply herbicide following Washington State Department of Agriculture pesticide license requirements.<\/li>\n
- Use GPS equipment to record new weed locations and navigate to past sites.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Winter Feeding of Wildlife:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Load feed trucks with hay using tractors.<\/li>\n
- Drive trucks to and from feed sites.<\/li>\n
- Feed hay using automated feeders or by hand as part of crew.<\/li>\n
- Accurately count and record elk and big horn sheep daily.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Wildlife Area Facilities and Grounds Maintenance:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Assist with general maintenance of building and grounds using hand tools, power tools, and equipment.<\/li>\n
- Install signs and kiosks using hand and power tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Fence Repair and Maintenance:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Patch holes, replace staples, brace old posts, install new posts, and build rock jacks, primarily on elk fence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Working Conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong>\u00a0Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Frequently carry, lift, and move loads weighing up to 50 pounds on a backpack or when loading materials. Working throughout the wildlife area includes hiking and driving over uneven terrain and the use of herbicides. Work performed in a workshop setting may include exposure to loud noises or other mechanical hazards. This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments.<\/p>\n
Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0Typically, Monday\u2013Thursday, 7:00am \u2013 3:00pm. During winter feeding, 40 hours per week over 5 workdays, to include the weekend. The standard work schedule includes the potential for occasional evening or weekend work as needed. Schedules may vary based on business needs, time of year, and\/or weather conditions.<\/p>\n
Tools and Equipment:<\/strong>\u00a0Herbicide spraying equipment, vehicles, farm equipment, ATV, trailers, and hand and power tools (such as shovels, cordless screw guns, wire cutters,\u00a0tamping bars, and saws).<\/p>\n
Customer Interactions:<\/strong>\u00a0May have some interactions with members of the public using the wildlife area.<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Option 1:\u00a0<\/strong>High school graduation or GED and<\/strong> three (3) months of natural resource related labor experience.<\/p>\n
Option 2:\u00a0<\/strong>One (1) year as a Natural Resource Worker 1.<\/p>\n
Certifications\/Licenses:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Valid Driver\u2019s License.<\/p>\n
Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n
In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess some or all the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n
- \n
- Commercial Driver\u2019s License (CDL).<\/li>\n
- Experience using farm equipment.<\/li>\n
- Herbicide application experience.<\/li>\n
- Noxious weed identification.<\/li>\n
- Shrubsteppe native species identification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
