Job Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC), Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located on the island of Maui, Hawai\u2018i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program\/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal\/State laws.  

MONTHLY SALARY:<\/strong>  $3,788\/Mon.  

DUTIES:<\/strong>  Coordinates, performs, and documents maintenance and repairs for project grounds, baseyards, and office\/headquarters. Makes improvements to facility structures. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment. Designs and fabricates parts and equipment as needed. Conducts safety inspections at project facilities and makes recommendations for improvement. Occasionally works in the field with the goal of eradication and control of invasive alien plant and animal species. Controls alien species using mechanical or chemical means as appropriate. Assists with coordination and management of helicopter operations. Coordinates maintenance and repairs for all project vehicles. Drives to transport project vehicles. Trains staff in the proper operation and maintenance of equipment.  

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: 
<\/strong>
EDUCATION<\/strong>: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: <\/strong>Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a natural resource or related agricultural\/landscape field with oversight responsibility for maintaining and using small and heavy equipment and a vehicle fleet.

KNOWLEDGE<\/strong>: Knowledge of Hawaiian biota and threats from incipient alien plant and animal invasions. Knowledge of field activities relating to agricultural or natural resource management. Knowledge of field safety and procedures and principles relevant to analyzing and resolving technical\/mechanical problems. Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards related to project operations.

ABILITIES & SKILLS:<\/strong> Must possess basic communication skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently. Ability to read maps and document work. Ability to prioritize competing demands for equipment maintenance and repairs in a fast-paced environment while keeping safety considerations foremost. Ability to work with, repair, and troubleshoot small mechanized equipment such as chainsaws, weed eaters, agricultural sprayers, tractors, forklifts, mowers, and pressure washers. Ability to complete Non-Journey-Worker level carpentry, grounds\/building maintenance, and welding work. Ability to design and fabricate parts and equipment as needed. Ability to train others on proper operation and maintenance of mechanized equipment. Must possess a valid driver\u2019s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver\u2019s insurance equivalent to Hawai\u2018i\u2019s No-Fault Driver\u2019s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer\/Employment Condition:<\/u> Must possess Certification in First Aid\/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within six (6) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete pesticide safety course within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee\u2019s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to complete chainsaw training within twelve (12) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete forklift operator\u2019s certification within six (6) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course (A100) within twelve (12) months from hire and maintain throughout duration of employment.

PHYSICAL\/MEDICAL DEMANDS: <\/strong>Excellent coordination skills and manual dexterity.  Ability to lift and carry at least fifty (50) pounds.

POLICY\/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT: <\/strong>As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai\u2018i’s and\/or business entity’s policies, procedures, and trainings.  Violation of RCUH’s, UH’s, or business entity’s policies and\/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and\/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and\/or criminal penalties, etc.).  

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    <\/strong>
Experience using handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) units for the purpose of data collection. Familiarity with computers and data entry. Field experience in an active resource management program to protect ecosystems in Hawai\u2018i or elsewhere, especially in the control of alien invasive species.
