In this evolving role, you will design and implement a variety of programs\u2014from after-school activities and summer camps (including spring 4th-grade Outdoor School) to school-year adventure trips. You will also drive new initiatives in curriculum development, community outreach, fundraising, grant writing, first aid training, and adventure leadership. This position is designed to grow over time as you infuse it with your interests, skills, and experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Program Design &amp; Implementation:\n<ul>\n<li>Lead the planning and execution of KEEN\u2019s diverse programs, including after-school activities, summer camps, 4th-grade camps, and year-round adventure trips.<\/li>\n<li>Develop innovative program ideas that align with community needs and environmental education best practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Community Outreach &amp; Public Engagement:\n<ul>\n<li>Establish and nurture strong partnerships with local schools, community groups, and families.<\/li>\n<li>Expand KEEN\u2019s visibility and participation through targeted outreach initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum &amp; Program Development:\n<ul>\n<li>Design engaging curricula that incorporate environmental education, adventure leadership, and first aid training.<\/li>\n<li>Tailor program content for various audiences\u2014including youth, older kids, and adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fundraising &amp; Grant Writing:\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with developing and implementing fundraising strategies.<\/li>\n<li>Spearhead grant writing efforts to secure sustainable funding for program growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Staff &amp; Camp Management:\n<ul>\n<li>Recruit, hire, and manage seasonal camp staff.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee summer camp programming, ensuring adherence to scheduling, safety protocols, and high-quality instruction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Adventure Leadership &amp; First Aid:\n<ul>\n<li>Plan and lead outdoor adventures and field trips, ensuring enriching and safe experiences for all participants.<\/li>\n<li>Provide first aid training to staff and the public and maintain rigorous safety standards across all programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goals for the Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This role is envisioned as a growing and evolving opportunity that leverages your personal strengths and professional interests. to secure the necessary resources for sustained program growth.<\/li>\n<li>Operational Excellence &amp; Leadership:<br>Create scalable operational systems and foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring the program evolves efficiently and effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated experience in youth education, outdoor education, or related fields.<\/li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of Washington\u2019s natural environment\u2014including local flora, fauna, and geography.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.<\/li>\n<li>Proven public outreach and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>A creative, reliable approach to program design and problem-solving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Background in environmental science, education, or outdoor recreation.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with grant writing and fundraising initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Certification in wilderness first aid (or higher) and experience in training others.<\/li>\n<li>Certified lifeguard or willingness to get certified.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to develop and implement culturally relevant programs for diverse populations.<\/li>\n<li>Spanish language proficiency is a plus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Compensation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Starting rate of $22 per hour, with potential for additional hours and increased compensation as the position evolves.<\/li>\n<li>As funding is secured and goals are met, KEEN\u2019s intention is to offer a 401 K, medical benefits, and other opportunities for growth when the Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center
