Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours in a rolling year.  The salary range for Scientific Aid is $18.26 – $21.67 per hour.  <\/p>\n

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for a Scientific Aid in the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program\/Title 27 Unit. The position is located at 1685 E Street, Fresno, CA 93706.<\/p>\n

Duties: <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Scientific Aid is responsible for assisting in the collection and laboratory processing of water quality samples, which may include carrying equipment over uneven terrain. The Scientific Aid is also responsible for assisting with office-centric duties including file review, document preparation, and data processing. Duties include assisting in the preparation of water quality scientific research projects; assisting in the development of various routine scientific reports, memos, permits, and formal and informal enforcement documents; participating in water quality site inspections and field sampling; assisting in analyzing laboratory samples. This job includes navigating uneven terrain and carrying equipment to sampling locations in various weather conditions. This position will help with duties in the NPDES\/Stormwater Unit during the sampling off-season. Please review the duty statement for additional information.<\/p>\n

Working Conditions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position and might be expected to comply with Executive Order (EO) 22-25<\/u><\/a> after July 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.  Proof of residency may be required.<\/p>\n

Salary Information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, \u00a7 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education\/experience. Employees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer<\/u>classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n

In addition, note: Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee\u2019s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. <\/u><\/a>The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.<\/p>\n
