The Museum recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and completed a strategic\u202fplan focused on encouraging a love for nature, levering science and collections for conservation, and using our own voice to be\u202fhere for nature.<\/p>\n<p>The Nat has an opening for a part-time, temporary&nbsp;<strong>Conservation Biology Intern<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacob\u2019s Center of Science and Conservation DeBeer STEM Internship Program:\u202f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nat&#8217;s JCSC DeBeer STEM Intern Program provides training and mentoring in research, databasing protocols, analysis, outreach, curation, and collections management to students, which can translate to career pathways in research, conservation, biological consulting, and related STEM careers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSERVATION BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT PROJECT DESCRIPTION:\u202f<\/strong>The intern will contribute to initiatives in San Diego and Baja California, Mexico focused on understanding the current state of biodiversity in regional urban canyon greenspaces. The intern may work on a variety of field, office, or laboratory tasks such as collecting, compiling, and sharing data that support biodiversity research, habitat assessment, and conservation planning. Interns are expected to create a final report or presentation on their work and will receive instruction, guidance, and follow-up for all tasks assigned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Primary responsibilities include:\u202f<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Online research and data collection<\/li>\n<li>Digitization<\/li>\n<li>Data management\u202f<\/li>\n<li>Assisting coordination and execution of outreach events<\/li>\n<li>Developing outreach materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Responsibilities may also include:\u202f<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Field site visits\/biodiversity surveys in San Diego and Baja California, Mexico<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Interest in conservation and natural history<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication skills with attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work some weekends and evenings (with prior notice)<\/li>\n<li>Experience using GIS software a plus<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u202fApplicants must attend a community college or university (or recently graduated in the past year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Time Commitment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hours:\u202fUp to 225 hours total. Interns can work up to 29 hours\/week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Ideal start date: August\/September<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location:\u202f<\/strong>On-Site. Some remote work may be possible.
