The\u00a0Forest Stewards Guild<\/a>\u00a0is hiring an organized and adaptive\u00a0professional to serve as the Forest and Fire Science Manager for our Southwest Region. This position plays a key role in translating fire and forest science, and monitoring data into practical strategies and communications that inform\u00a0adaptive\u00a0land management, support collaborative planning, and engage\u00a0forest dependent\u00a0communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Manager will lead multiparty monitoring related to the Rio Chama Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Project (CFLRP). The Manager will guide the monitoring program,\u00a0facilitate\u00a0collaborative input, and coordinate with other Guild staff, US Forest Service leadership, and the Mountain Studies Institute to advance multiparty monitoring efforts. The Manager will\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the 2-3-2 Monitoring Committee, prepare formal reports, oversee agreements with partner organizations that collect and analyze monitoring data, and develop creative means to communicate monitoring results.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Manager will\u00a0also\u00a0lead a Joint Fire Science Program-funded project,\u00a0Accelerating Science to Action Partnerships (ASAP) in the\u00a0<\/em>2-3-2 Partnership landscape<\/em><\/a>. The Manager will\u00a0convene\u00a0researchers and managers to incorporate climate resilience into on-the-ground projects. This requires a blend of collaborative coordination and technical\u00a0expertise\u00a0to\u00a0identify\u00a0shared challenges,\u00a0determine\u00a0what existing climate and resilience planning tools exist, and co-develop on-the-ground solutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to these two main projects,\u00a0the\u00a0Forest and Fire Science Manager\u00a0will support our Southwest team\u00a0with\u00a0science\u00a0questions.\u00a0In 2027, the Manager will collaborate with the Guild team to\u00a0identify\u00a0new opportunities and projects.\u00a0As the Manager\u00a0grows in their position, they will be able to focus proposals and partnership on their areas of interest within the Guild\u2019s\u00a0focus on forest stewardship.\u00a0This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of applied science, collaboration, and project communication, and is excited to help accelerate science into action across diverse, fire-adapted landscapes.\u00a0An entrepreneurial attitude will be\u00a0essential\u00a0for\u00a0long-term\u00a0success.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Forest Stewards Guild, a national organization of foresters and allied natural resource professionals, is dedicated to practicing and promoting responsible forestry as a means of sustaining the integrity of forest ecosystems and the\u00a0people\u00a0dependent upon them.\u00a0We use innovative, science-based solutions to meet the challenges of forest conservation and management.\u00a0The Guild has over 700 members in the United States and Canada. The Guild\u00a0maintains\u00a0regional offices in New Mexico, Maine, Minnesota, North\u00a0Carolina, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and Wisconsin.\u00a0The Southwest office has a history of working alongside place-based communities and Tribes for 30\u00a0years,\u00a0including some longstanding\u00a0programs related to youth education and workforce development, fire adapted communities, and collaborative forestry.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Position Description<\/strong>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

The successful candidate will have an advanced\u00a0degree in forestry,\u00a0fire\u00a0ecology, natural resource management,\u00a0social science, science communication,\u00a0or\u00a0five\u00a0years equivalent experience of professional work\u00a0leading collaborative knowledge sharing efforts. This individual will have excellent organizational, communication, and written skills, and a desire to support ecological forestry\u00a0and\u00a0forest dependent\u00a0communities\u00a0in the Southwest. The Guild has been expanding in the Southwest, and the ideal candidate will\u00a0possess\u00a0the desire and leadership skills to sustain and strengthen the Guild\u2019s regional presence and impact.\u00a0Previous\u00a0experience\u00a0understanding forest resilience\u00a0and\u00a0collaboration\u00a0with diverse partners\u00a0in the Southwest, coupled with project\u00a0management\u00a0experience, is highly desirable.\u202fThe SW\u00a0Forest and Fire Science Manager\u00a0will work closely with\u00a0directors\u00a0and staff\u00a0based out of\u00a0the Santa Fe, NM\u00a0office.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
