This is an at-will, temporary, hourly, non-exempt position. The Monitoring Restoration Technician II will work up to 40 hours per week, primarily in the field (exact hours may vary seasonally). This is a seasonal, grant-funded position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Association:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Coos Watershed Association (Association) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was established in 1994 by a diverse group of stakeholders with a mission to support environmental integrity and economic stability within the Coos watershed by increasing community capacity to develop, test, promote, and implement management practices in the interests of watershed health.\u00a0The Association is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by the Executive Director. We invite applications from qualified candidates who share our commitment to serving our community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential functions:<\/strong> The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, conducting stream surveys, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying future project opportunities. These duties are a representative example of the position&#8217;s expectations; actual duties assigned may vary depending on funding and Association needs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct perennial stream surveys within forest harvest operation areas<\/li>\n<li>Assist in restoration effectiveness monitoring, including instream Aquatic Inventory (AQI) habitat surveys<\/li>\n<li>Assist with fish salvage at habitat restoration projects<\/li>\n<li>Collect GPS data on project sites<\/li>\n<li>QA\/QC field data sheets and input into the monitoring database<\/li>\n<li>Safely operate tools and equipment in the execution of the above duties<\/li>\n<li>Communicate respectfully and effectively with other staff, supervisors, board, and partners<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a team player mentality and pitch in as needed to help ensure all aspects of the Association\u2019s work are successful<\/li>\n<li>Consistently approach challenges, setbacks, and changes with a solutions-oriented mindset and commitment to positively contributing to team morale<\/li>\n<li>Perform duties safely in accordance with the Coos Watershed Association Forestry Safety and Health Plan<\/li>\n<li>All other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 year of related field work experience<\/li>\n<li>Hold a high school diploma<\/li>\n<li>Ability to safely and effectively work independently in the field, without direct supervision<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective, professional, and collaborative relationships with staff and project partners<\/li>\n<li>Excellent ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing<\/li>\n<li>Excellent time management skills and ability to be productive in a collaborative work environment<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently, execute tasks, and adhere to project timelines<\/li>\n<li>Ability to adjust to a variable work schedule based on project needs (i.e., early mornings, long hours, seasonal fluctuations, etc.) and ability to work in varied work environments and conditions (i.e., cold temperatures, hot temperatures, windy, wet, dry, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Must be 18 years old<\/li>\n<li>Ability to lift 40 pounds and traverse over difficult terrain carrying a 25 lb. backpack (up to 10 miles a day)<\/li>\n<li>Must have a current driver\u2019s license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicle to use daily for work purposes, including driving on forest service roads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2+ years of experience in forestry, environmental, biological, natural resource science field surveying<\/li>\n<li>Have taken coursework, are currently enrolled, or hold a degree in environmental science, biology, forestry, or natural resource science, or a similar field<\/li>\n<li>Experience with ODFW AQI protocols<\/li>\n<li>Experience with fish seining<\/li>\n<li>Computer skills, including GIS, Microsoft Office, and GPS equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Supervision:<\/strong> The Restoration Monitoring Technician II reports to the Monitoring Program Manager. They will work under the daily supervision of the Monitoring Specialist and Hydrological Specialist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions:<\/strong> The Association\u2019s office is generally open during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, although our work hours span from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and may include nights and weekends, with some schedule flexibility available with approval.\u00a0 Employees\u2019 presence may be required at designated internal and external meetings even if they fall outside your normal workday schedule. The work involves indoor office-type work and outdoor work, including some strenuous physical exertion such as lifting objects weighing 40 pounds, walking with a backpack for extended periods of time, while also safely traversing rough terrain.
