Join the team and support fish stock assessments by collecting and organizing spawning ground data in the Skagit River Basin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Conduct various fieldwork including spawning ground surveys, biological sampling, and juvenile salmonid stock surveys.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this role, you will be responsible for compiling and summarizing data, safely operating small watercraft, vehicles, and other equipment, and maintaining positive working relationships with stakeholders and Co-Managers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What to Expect-<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Spawner Survey Technician will,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conduct Fieldwork \u2013 Stock Assessment Surveys:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Conduct stock assessment surveys and biological sampling of anadromous species throughout District 14 (Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties).<\/li>\n<li>Hike or boat (via pontoon or jet sled) sections of the Skagit basin and independent tributaries.<\/li>\n<li>Record and enumerate observations of salmon redds, salmon species, and survey conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Collect biological samples from fish carcasses.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately record data collected during surveys using paper and electronic methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Data Compilation and Entry<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Review, record, and tabulate data.<\/li>\n<li>Edit and enter data from field surveys and biological data collection.<\/li>\n<li>Organize and archive raw data.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately collect and record basic resource and fishery information into electronic or written form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Setting, including hazards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Work occurs outside in all weather conditions, often in remote locations without cellular service and while wading through thigh-to-waist-deep water.<\/li>\n<li>This position will involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments.<\/li>\n<li>Hazards may include exposure to extreme temperatures, slippery or uneven terrain, sharp or hard surfaces, sharp sampling instruments and environmental hazards, and encountering wild or domestic animals.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sample and work around fish carcasses (in various stages of decomposition).<\/li>\n<li>Drive vehicles, ATVs, and boats (pontoon or jet sled) in all seasons and environmental conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Lift and\/or pull the boats around trees or other obstructions. Frequently carry up to 75 pounds of equipment short distances, including over log jams (such as portaging to access sites).<\/li>\n<li>Hike up to 12 miles in streams and through rugged terrain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0Full-time, 40 hours per week. The standard work schedule requires flexibility; may be assigned work hours at any time within a 24-hour period. Work shifts are not fixed and may vary based on operational needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Requirements:<\/strong>\u00a0Travel is primarily in state for trainings and conferences, with occasional out-of-state travel possible.
