Experience<\/td>\n<td class=\"job-meta-value\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservationjobboard.com\/experience\/entry\">0 &#8211; 1 year<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"job-frame__description_content\">\n<p><strong>BACKGROUND<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) seeks\u00a0a Conservation\u00a0Associate\u202fto join the team working to improve habitat and protect water resources in beautiful coastal San Mateo County.\u00a0RCDs across California serve as local hubs for conservation, connecting people with the technical, financial, and educational\u00a0assistance\u00a0they need to conserve and manage natural resources. RCDs help landowners, land managers, government agencies, and others to voluntarily protect, restore, and enhance natural resources on private and public lands. A defining characteristic of RCDs is that our\u00a0assistance\u00a0is non-regulatory, confidential, and free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>POSITION<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Conservation Associate serving\u00a0the water\u00a0resources and habitat enhancement teams advances efforts to restore wildlife habitat and enhance streamflow for environmental benefit while improving water security for local agriculture and domestic use. The work\u00a0generally involves\u00a0assisting\u00a0with conservation projects and other efforts to help\u00a0people\u00a0manage their natural resources.\u00a0Example projects include enhancing creek and wetland habitat, removing barriers to fish migration, managing vegetation, water storage and conservation, and other activities that improve natural resources for wildlife and people.\u00a0This position often works with an array of internal staff as well as outside organizations, government agency staff, and public and private landowners.\u00a0A Conservation Associate may support other RCD programs or the administration of the organization as needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate with advisors and partners to support projects from conception to completion including design, planning, permitting, implementation, monitoring, and documentation\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Help track project budgets\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Draft reports to funders and\u00a0permitting\u00a0agencies\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Conduct pre- and post-project monitoring activities such as collecting field data, data entry, equipment preparation,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0supplies, and preparing monitoring reports (you will be trained in all required protocols)\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Support biological monitoring during construction which may include preparing daily monitoring forms and species training materials,\u00a0identifying\u00a0and\u00a0relocating\u00a0species\u00a0from active construction areas, and communicating measures with contractors to ensure the safety of the species\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Prepare or\u00a0assist\u00a0with preparation of materials for documents such as grant and permit applications,\u00a0biological resource evaluations (including site\u00a0component\u00a0maps and GIS analysis), and monitoring reports\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0with responses to requests for help from community members as\u00a0appropriate, often involving\u00a0site-visits\u00a0and occasionally involving after-hour community meetings\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, taking notes, managing files,\u00a0reviewing\u00a0and proofreading documents, and coordinating communication with external partners.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Foster positive relationships with staff and partners\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist, coordinate, contribute to, or help lead communication, outreach, and educational activities ranging from social media to workshops, meetings, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Participate in training to increase individual and organizational capacity\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to overall RCD goals and mission through assigned tasks and special projects as needed or assigned\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in conservation and contribute to implementation of the RCD\u2019s DEIJ Plan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimum qualifications<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience that includes in-field biological work, natural resource management, the use of relevant technologies such as GIS, community engagement, and\/ or project coordination\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Administrative skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to implement conservation projects\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of community members with diverse cultural backgrounds, worldviews, interests, and temperaments\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and\/ or\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0ability to learn\u00a0new programs\/ systems\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Highly organized, motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced work environment\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work collaboratively on a team as well as independently\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Ability to occasionally walk on rugged terrain or in creeks, walk or stand for extended periods of time,\u00a0lift and carry supplies, and use hand-held equipment during all seasons\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Problem-solving abilities, flexibility,\u00a0strong desire\u00a0to communities,\u00a0restoration ecology, fisheries, water resources and conservation, or similar field\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with watershed, restoration, or other conservation groups\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience conducting outreach or community engagement\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience coordinating projects\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience supporting educational programs such as workshops,\u00a0trainings\u00a0and webinars\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with resource conservation districts\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience with budgets\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Experience with grant writing
