Join a team dedicated to protecting Endangered Species Act-listed Bull Trout by monitoring and improving fish passage in tributary streams across the central Cascade Mountains.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
This role combines fieldwork and collaboration with WDFW staff and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to support critical habitat connectivity in the Yakima Basin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
What to Expect-<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Bull Trout Technician will,\u00a0<\/p>\n
Assist in monitoring fish passage conditions in tributaries to Rimrock, Keechelus, Bumping and Kachess reservoirs, identifying and addressing barriers as reservoir levels decline:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n- \n
- Document fish passage conditions over time and across locations using GPS and a camera. \u00a0<\/li>\n
- Identify and remove any barriers to fish passage, including recreational rock dams, bridges or other features that negatively impact fish passage. \u00a0<\/li>\n
- Implement fish passage remediation by modifying stream channels using hand tools and native materials to create volitional fish passage. \u00a0<\/li>\n
- Construct channel training bars, weirs or other features to maintain and improve fish passage.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Summarize collected field data and site conditions to assist with the completion of weekly reports to internal and external entities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
Working Conditions:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Work setting, including hazards:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Work typically occurs outside in inclement weather conditions. Minimal office work.<\/li>\n
- Field work duties will include working in remote locations, night work, working in cold flowing water,navigating uneven\/rough terrain such as stream beds with flowing water, reservoir beds and dry stream channels.\u00a0<\/li>\n
- Hike\/walk off trail in remote areas to assess and improve fish passage and conduct fish rescue (~3-8 miles per day).<\/li>\n
- At times, it may be required to repetitively lift at least 50-75lbs (3-string straw bales, t-posts, rocks, large woody debris (LWD) out\/in of the streams, bed or banks and large rolls (100\u2019x20\u2019) of 10mil visqueen).\u00a0<\/li>\n
- May be surrounded by wildfire smoke or poor air quality and use a respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) while working with various chemicals used at facility.<\/li>\n
- This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
Schedule:\u00a0<\/strong>This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible and may include assigned work hours at any time within a 24-hour period. Shifts are not fixed and may vary based on operational needs.<\/p>\n
Travel Requirements:<\/strong> Occasional travel may be required with a potential for overnight stays.<\/p>\n
Tools and Equipment:\u00a0<\/strong>Operation of motor vehicles including 4×4 trucks, ATV\u2019s, and the ability to safely tow a trailer. Hand tools such as rakes, shovels, post pounders and hay hooks.<\/p>\n
Customer Interactions:\u00a0<\/strong>Frequent interactions with the public, area recreationalists, neighboring private landowners, United States Forest Service (USFS), Yakama Nation tribal members and fisheries staff (YN), United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBOR), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and local Bull trout recovery partners such as Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group (MCFEG), Kittitas Conservation Trust (KCT) and others.<\/p>\n
Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n
Required Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
Option 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Graduation from high school or GED, including one (1) year of high school science and<\/strong> two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician 1.<\/p>\n
Option 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Graduation from high school or GED including one (1) year of high school science and<\/strong> two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist.<\/p>\n
Please Note:<\/strong>\u00a0College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter hours of natural science classes.<\/p>\n

Valid Driver\u2019s License.<\/p>\n
Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n
