LIHT is guided by science and integrity in preserving, nurturing, and restoring the island\u2019s natural systems, honoring its cultural heritage, and cultivating community resilience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary:<\/strong> The Summer Steward is a skilled, flexible, goal-driven, organized, and enthusiastic person who will assist the Stewardship Manager in land management activities for LIHT. This position will report directly to the Stewardship Manager and will work closely with other staff in a fast-paced, collegial, and community-centric environment. The Summer Steward will be responsible for creating a final project that explores a topic of interest related to conservation and land management. They will work closely with the Stewardship Manager to plan and execute their final project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties &amp; Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in general stewardship activities, including invasive species management, trail maintenance, and kiosk upkeep<\/li>\n<li>Conduct field surveys about invasive species<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the annual monitoring of LIHT conservation easement properties<\/li>\n<li>Answer and direct incoming calls when necessary<\/li>\n<li>Greet, educate, and assist visitors when necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passion for conservation, land management, restoration, and\/or environmental advocacy<\/li>\n<li>Must be a senior in their undergraduate program or have graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree within the last year<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of GIS and GPS applications preferred (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Survey123)<\/li>\n<li>Experience with power tools (String trimmers, Chainsaws, Mowers, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of PNW and Salish Sea ecosystems<\/li>\n<li>Must live within a commutable distance to Lummi Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Physical and Environmental Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Able to hike and traverse for an extended period, often through rugged off-trail terrain and inclement weather.<\/li>\n<li>Capable of lifting to 35 pounds and the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.<\/li>\n<li>Able to stand and sit for extended periods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Valid driver&#8217;s license and may require the use of a personal vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"job-frame__how-to-apply test_job_how_to_apply\"><strong><span class=\"job-frame__how-to-apply__button\"><span class=\"job-frame__how-to-apply__button__text\">How To Apply<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<div id=\"how-to-apply-content-274300\" class=\"job-frame__how-to-apply__content\">\n<p>To apply, please email a cover letter describing your qualifications and a resume to <a href=\"mailto:stewardship@liht.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stewardship@liht.org<\/a> by May 15th, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Equal Opportunity Employer: The Lummi Island Heritage Trust is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity and compliance with all federal, state, and local laws concerning employment discrimination, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
