{"id":58710,"date":"2026-04-16T14:20:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T21:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/?p=58710"},"modified":"2026-04-16T14:29:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T21:29:28","slug":"scholarship-student-scholarships-washington-state-lake-protection-association-seattle-wa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/mesweekly\/scholarship-student-scholarships-washington-state-lake-protection-association-seattle-wa\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarship: Student Scholarships, Washington State Lake Protection Association (Seattle, WA)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a08839eb401\/2a36a8d0-1a3f-43ae-a33a-da48ef15b5db.jpg?rdr=true\" width=\"550\" data-imagetype=\"External\" data-image-content=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h1><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Student Scholarship Deadline Extended to April 30 &#8211; Apply Now<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a08839eb401\/7b421dc6-371a-462c-af4b-9c585e2187b9.jpg?rdr=true\" width=\"640\" data-imagetype=\"External\" data-image-content=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(51, 23, 20)\"><b data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Applications now due April 30, 2026<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This year, the Washington State Lake Protection Association is offering three student scholarships:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nancy Weller Memorial Scholarship for a Ph.D. graduate student for $1,250.<\/li>\n<li>The Dave Lamb Memorial Scholarship for a M.Sc. graduate student for $1,000.<\/li>\n<li>The WALPA scholarship to an undergraduate student for $500.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All three scholarships will also provide complimentary registration and a $200 travel stipend towards accommodation for each recipient at the annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a08839eb401\/1b1e7c91-48f2-44c3-ac47-90a3d0c884c7.jpg?rdr=true\" width=\"194\" data-imagetype=\"External\" data-image-content=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Student scholarships will be awarded to further our understanding of the limnology, hydrology, ecology, management, and restoration of lakes in Washington and Idaho.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Applicants must be part- or full-time undergraduate or graduate students at an accredited college or university in Washington or Idaho. Recipients shall use scholarship funds to cover expenses directly related to their research.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/files.constantcontact.com\/a08839eb401\/3bcf9190-3e15-460c-8c11-751b17ab47c2.jpg?rdr=true\" width=\"204\" data-imagetype=\"External\" data-image-content=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">All scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, composed of individuals from academia, industry, and government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Student scholarship winners will be selected based on the quality of their research topic, its significance to lake science as described above, its relevance to the applicant\u2019s interests and career goals, and for following the directions below.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Student applicants must provide the following three items:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A statement of research interests and career goals (maximum of 3 pages). The statement must explain why the proposed research is important to the field of limnology and\/or lake management and include an itemized budget and budget justification that explains the intended use of the scholarship funds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A 1-2 page resume.<\/li>\n<li>Recent transcripts of all college\/university course work (official copies not required).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>A letter of recommendation from the student\u2019s academic advisor, should be sent as a PDF file directly to the committee chair.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>All applicants should send materials in a single Adobe Acrobat PDF file clearly identified by the applicant\u2019s last name to Angela Strecker, chair of the Scholarship Committee, at strecka2@wwu.edu. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on April 30, 2026. The Scholarship Committee will contact applicants in May to let them know their application\u2019s status.
