It is built on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that operated from 1933 \u2013 1942.\u00a0SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects on public lands. While serving with SCC, members receive training\u00a0of job skills, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Programs are developed using a step ladder approach to provide a progression of skill development based on a member\u2019s needs. Members receive a weekly living allowance, training, and an AmeriCorps Education Award.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SCC\u2019s Watershed Program engages motivated young adults, ages 18 &#8211; 30, to complete challenging and impactful watershed restoration projects on multiple watersheds in the Four Corners region. SCC\u2019s Watershed Program is based in the Four Corners office in Durango, CO.<\/p>\n<p>SCC\u2019s Watershed Strike Team will work with the Montrose County invasive weed management program and as part of the Dolores River Restoration Partnership (DRRP). The DRRP is a public-private collaborative of conservation corps, non-profits, BLM managers, private landowners, and engaged community members surrounding the Dolores River watershed. This is the DRRP\u2019s 15th\u00a0year\u00a0of an ambitious effort to treat invasive plant species along 175 miles of the Dolores River corridor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Description of Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is an\u00a0AmeriCorps\u00a0position.\u00a0The crew members will participate in\u00a0a 3-person crew\u00a0(1 leader, 2 members). While working (i.e.\u00a0on-hitch), the crew will camp together, prepare all meals together, and work together as a group to complete all projects and chores. Hitch schedules may vary between 4 days on, 3 days off and 8 days on, 6 days\u00a0off.\u00a0SCC does not provide\u00a0off-hitch\u00a0accommodation\u00a0and\u00a0crew members\u00a0will\u00a0be responsible for\u00a0their own accommodation during that time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The primary responsibilities of this crew are to treat noxious weeds,\u00a0participate\u00a0in revegetation activities such as seeding and planting of native species, collect vegetation monitoring and survey data,\u00a0cage\u00a0native\u00a0trees\u00a0to encourage co-existence with beaver,\u00a0and\u00a0complete low-tech restoration work. This crew is designed to be flexible to meet the evolving needs of the DRRP. Flexibility and adaptability are essential.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien<\/li>\n<li>At least 17 years of age<\/li>\n<li>Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award<\/li>\n<li>Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.<\/li>\n<li>Have a current driver\u2019s license and have had a license for three years<\/li>\n<li>Capable of walking (minimum of 5 miles\/day on rough, uneven terrain)<\/li>\n<li>Standing, crouching and stooping for long periods of time<\/li>\n<li>Lifting\/carrying items that weigh up to 40 pounds<\/li>\n<li>Working in temperatures that can reach above 95 degrees (F)<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge or interest in native and non-native vegetation of the Southwest is encouraged<\/li>\n<li>GIS, herbicide, vegetation monitoring experience is a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Participant Essential Eligibility Requirements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Essential eligibility requirements for the program must be met. These requirements are written the same for all positions and therefore may not apply directly to your\u00a0position:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Participant and Expedition Behavior\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work effectively as a member of a team despite potentially stressful and difficult conditions. This may require problem solving on an interpersonal or group level as well as a willingness to accept differences.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Willingness and ability to complete all aspects of the program, including conservation projects, education, training and national service. Members must commit to participating in all crew activities, including service days in local communities where applicable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Effectively communicate ideas and concerns as they arise directly to supervisors, colleagues and organization staff.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Have the cognitive ability to learn necessary skills and apply them to effectively carry out the service work requirements.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to a safe learning environment, no harassment of others for any reason.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Appropriately represent SCC and AmeriCorps to the public and project partners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Safety and Judgement\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effectively communicate danger to others in the form of either a warning of danger others may be\u00a0encountering\u00a0or a notification of personal distress,\u00a0injury\u00a0or need for\u00a0assistance.\u00a0You must be able to do so at a distance of up to 50 meters and in conditions with limited visibility or loud background noise such as darkness or high winds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Effectively perceive,\u00a0understand\u00a0and follow\u00a0direction\u00a0by others so that you will be able to successfully execute\u00a0appropriate\u00a0and\u00a0perhaps unfamiliar\u00a0techniques to manage hazards. These directions may be given before the hazard is\u00a0encountered\u00a0or may need to be given during exposure to the hazard.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Stay alert and\u00a0focused\u00a0for several hours at a time while traveling and working in varied weather conditions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Perceive and\u00a0comprehend\u00a0significant and\u00a0apparent\u00a0hazards, including those hazards previously\u00a0identified\u00a0by others.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Respond appropriately to stress or crises.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>If taking prescription medications, participants must be able to\u00a0maintain\u00a0proper dosage by self-medicating without\u00a0assistance\u00a0from others.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Environmental Ethics &amp; Outdoor Skills\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn and practice Leave No Trace ethics and techniques.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Learn and safely perform fundamental outdoor living\/travel and work skills as\u00a0appropriate to\u00a0the project. Remain adequately hydrated, fed, and properly dressed as to remain\u00a0generally healthy\u00a0and safe, avoiding environmental injuries.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Live in a physically demanding, possibly remote environment for an uninterrupted period of up to several weeks.\u00a0Conditions of this environment may vary significantly and may include severe and\/or trying weather. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service<\/li>\n<li>Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Members must be able to serve 40-50 hour work weeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Orientation and Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.<\/li>\n<li>Members will participate in a member orientation week Monday, May 25-29, 2026.
