Its mission is to protect and restore wild salmon ecosystems in the Hood Canal Watershed through restoration, research, education and stewardship. More information available at www.pnwsalmoncenter.org.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the Summer Chum Salmon Conservation Initiative is to protect, restore and enhance the <br \/>productivity and diversity of Hood Canal summer chum salmon and their ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to current college students and graduates pursuing fisheries work experience<\/li>\n<li>Must have a valid driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to pass a background check<\/li>\n<li>Desirable Skills\/Qualifications:<\/li>\n<li>Be a dependable individual<\/li>\n<li>Have an attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Have ability to use computer applications, such as MS Word or Excel<\/li>\n<li>Have ability to maneuver through rough stream terrain at a relatively rapid pace.<\/li>\n<li>Be able to dissect salmon and retrieve data and samples from salmon carcasses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities\/Tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installing and operating a fish wier for adult salmon collection<\/li>\n<li>Take daily shifts at adult trap to identify, record, and release adult salmon<\/li>\n<li>Support volunteer training sessions<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in the collection of biological samples from adult summer\/fall chum carcasses<\/li>\n<li>Conduct carcass surveys on area rivers<\/li>\n<li>Entering field data into MS Excel spreadsheets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project Duration:<\/strong> August 2026 &#8211; October 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Total hours:<\/strong> 10-40 hours\/week<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay:<\/strong> Stipend available; based on credit hours (see below), otherwise internship is on a volunteer basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong> Please submit a letter of interest, a current resume, and an unofficial transcript to Clayton David at clayton@pnwsalmoncenter.org. Questions and comments may also be directed to this address or by calling (360) 275-3575 Extension 115.<\/p>\n<p>Salmon Center internships are available to students enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education program where they receive school credits and monetary stipend for their time. Internship opportunities have flexible time commitments along with corresponding credit hours and stipends. Students must coordinate with their school or advisor in advance to ensure they receive school credit for their internship. Stipends are awarded upon completion of hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time Commitment (based on a 10 week quarter) ~ Stipend<\/strong><br \/>100 hours; 10 hrs\/week ~ $250.00<br \/>200 hours; 20 hrs\/week ~ $500.00<br \/>300 hours; 30 hrs\/week ~ $750.00<br \/>400 hours; 40 hrs\/week ~ $1000.00<\/p>\n<p>*Stipends will be distributed in two installments upon the completion of committed contract hours. The first payment will be distributed at midterm (of internship) and the last payment will be distributed at end of term.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Start and end dates of projects may not necessarily coincide with quarterly school schedules.
