We are looking for a\u00a0<strong>Full-time\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Consulting\u00a0Ecologist focusing on long-term monitoring of wetland plant communities in southern Nevada.<\/strong>\u00a0All WEST ecologists are supported by a team of technical and non-technical staff, which sets new team members up for success. We are seeking a qualified Consulting Ecologist to provide leadership, subject matter expertise, and help WEST support a long-term monitoring project in the Mojave Desert.<\/p>\n<p>WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data. Join WEST and discover a company of passionate, committed, and highly motivated individuals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please click\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flipsnack.com\/9CCDC75569B\/employee-benefits_regular-v1\/full-view.html\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>to see what benefits WEST offers!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The minimum base salary for this\u00a0position is $80,000, plus annual bonus.\u00a0Salary may vary based on education, knowledge, and experience.<\/p>\n<p>Location is flexible, although a location in the western region of the United States, is preferred (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/west-inc.com\/about-us\/locations\/\">https:\/\/west-inc.com\/about-us\/locations\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The position will require regular overnight travel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><br \/>The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of consulting experience (or equivalent combination of relevant advanced education and professional\/consulting of experience), and expertise in all levels of long-term vegetation monitoring, including field surveys, data quality assurance\/quality control, and data analysis and reporting. Additionally, the successful candidate will have established field-based ecological and botanical skills, strong knowledge of\u00a0ecological principles, and experience communicating novel results. Candidate will be responsible for supporting a specific long-term and complex biological monitoring program for wetland systems in southern Nevada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities include but are not limited to<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Project Management: Plan and conduct\/lead ecological restoration-related fieldwork, including baseline and post-construction site assessments, natural vegetation community mapping and characterizations, quantitative and qualitative vegetation studies, and ecological\/botanical surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Work directly with WEST clients and agency personnel to identify and develop practical and ecologically minded monitoring\u00a0protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Collect long-term vegetation data\u00a0for\u00a0analysis and reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct site evaluations\u00a0and provide results and recommendations for adaptive vegetation management to clients.<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of biological monitoring reports.<\/li>\n<li>Potentially assist the broader WEST services group with desktop- and field-based habitat site assessments, wetland delineations, vegetation surveys, rare plant surveys, and\/or wildlife surveys (based on\u00a0interest and\u00a0qualifications).<\/li>\n<li>Help maintain WEST\u2019s position as thought leaders in the environmental consulting\u00a0market.<\/li>\n<li>At least four mobilizations (approximately two weeks each) to the study area located outside of Las Vegas, Nevada each year to collect vegetation data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>This is a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of all the duties which\u00a0may be associated with this position.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications and Preferred Skills\/Abilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate joining WEST as a full-time regular Consulting Vegetation Ecologist will be a self-motivated individual who is able to pay close attention to detail and possess:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum of a bachelor\u2019s degree in botany, restoration ecology, natural resources, environmental science,\u00a0biological science, ecology, or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Previous consulting or vegetation monitoring experience (10+ years), practicing applied ecology, including developing monitoring plans and adaptive management strategies, and conducting botanical-related surveys such as vegetation transects, plant community association\/mapping, or rare plant surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present\/report on long-term ecological monitoring data.<\/li>\n<li>Strong writing skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately report\u00a0scientific methods and results of field studies.<\/li>\n<li>GIS, R Programming, and database experience is preferred but not required.<\/li>\n<li>Track record of maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, clients, and project stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>Strong time management, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to work\u00a0well under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to follow instructions from managers and accept guidance and constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors.<\/li>\n<li>Critical thinking, problem solving, and applying science to practice.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to effectively supervise
